Tim Sherwood: 'Jan Vertonghen just can't defend'

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood says that Jan Vertonghen cannot defend.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has criticised centre-back Jan Vertonghen following his unconvincing performance in the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The ex-Spurs player and coach laid into the Belgium following the drubbing at Stamford Bridge, declaring that he "just can't defend".

The Mirror quotes Sherwood as saying: "Vertonghen is so poor. Can't move his feet. He looks elegant with the ball but he just can't defend, this guy."

Vertonghen's future at White Hart Lane is clouded by uncertainty amid reported interest from Manchester United and talk of a new deal at Spurs petering off of late.
