Celtic held by Red Bull Salzburg

A late free kick from Jonathan Soriano earns Red Bull Salzburg a 2-2 draw in their Europa League tie with Celtic.

Red Bull Salzburg twice came from behind to hold Celtic to a 2-2 draw in their opening Europa League Group D fixture.

The visitors took the lead in the 14th minute when Wakaso Mubarak was picked out on the edge of the box by Kris Commons, before drilling a low strike into the bottom corner.

Kevin Kampl fired an effort just wide of the post moments later as Red Bull looked for an immediate response.

Jonathan Soriano then saw his free kick saved by Craig Gordon, before Scott Brown drilled a shot inches wide of the far post for Celtic.

In the 36th minute the hosts levelled the scores when Alan was played through by Christoph Leitgeb, before seeing his strike take a deflection off Efe Ambrose and loop into the net over Gordon.

Alan came close to scoring a second after the break, but his effort was pushed behind by Gordon.

On the hour-mark Celtic retook the lead through Brown, who saw his volley deflect off Andre Ramalho and into the bottom corner.

However, Red Bull hit back and equalised for the second time when Soriano fired a free kick from long range into the top corner to earn his side a point.
