Craig Conway inspires Blackburn Rovers win over Wigan Athletic

Blackburn Rovers build towards their Championship campaign with a 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park.

Blackburn Rovers continued preparations for their forthcoming Championship campaign with a pre-season win over Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

Rovers offered starts to triallists Danny Guthrie and Nicky Maynard, but the latter's chance to shine was curtailed when he trudged off with an injury on 32 minutes.

His replacement was another triallist in former Blackpool and Aston Villa attacker Nathan Delfouneso, who nearly gave Blackburn the lead before half time when he latched on to Craig Conway's pass before dragging his shot wide.

Rovers continued to fashion clear goal-scoring chances and almost went in front within moments of the restart when Conway smashed a shot against the crossbar.

A clearance from David Raya gave the hosts another opportunity as Jordan Rhodes found himself through on goal, only to see his shot saved by Lee Nicholls.

However, the home side took the lead after Conway was bundled over on the edge of the area before youngster Willem Tomlinson rifled a 30-yard free kick into the back of the Latics' net.

With seven minutes left, Rovers doubled their advantage after Conway teed up defender Grant Hanley, who headed home.

In the penultimate minute, Ben Marshall made sure of victory for Blackburn with a fizzing shot from 25 yards.
