Technical director John de Jong has acknowledged that PSV Eindhoven may struggle to retain the services of Cody Gakpo in the long term.
The forward has been superb in the Eredivisie this season, contributing six goals and 10 assists from his 15 appearances.
During the January transfer window, the 22-year-old was naturally linked with many clubs, including Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
While De Jong has acknowledged that he was pleased to keep the Netherlands international until the end of the season, he is wary of further interest later in 2022.
Speaking to PSV TV, De Jong said: "The interest started early in the season, when he performed well, also with the Dutch national team. My goal is to keep him for the season at all times.
"I don't know how long we can keep him out of the hands of the big clubs in Europe. How he performs is the most important thing.
"That (his new contract) says a lot. A nice signal to players in the academy and in this group. The path that he goes through from youth player to important base player, to the second captain is beautiful. An example."
Gakpo has a contract with PSV until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
