Marseille reportedly want to sign William Saliba on a permanent basis from Arsenal, but the Frenchman wants to fight for his place in North London.

Marseille are reportedly planning to open talks with Arsenal over a permanent deal for William Saliba.

The 20-year-old is yet to make his debut for the senior Gunners side but has been a Ligue 1 regular for Les Olympiens under Jorge Sampaoli this season.

Mikel Arteta has hinted that there could be a place for Saliba in the squad next term, but the centre-back is still facing an uncertain future in North London.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Marseille are keen to strike a permanent deal for Saliba and will soon begin talks with the Gunners to try to reach an agreement.

However, Saliba is supposedly determined to fight for his place in the Arsenal setup when his loan spell finishes in 2022, despite being sent out on loan three times already.

Saliba has made just eight appearances for the Gunners' Under-23s but has played the full 90 minutes in 12 Ligue 1 games this term, as well as four Europa League matches.
