Returning to competitive action under new management, Udinese host Serie C side Avellino in the Coppa Italia's first round on Friday.

After a season of struggle in 2023-24, when they almost lost their top-flight status, the Friulani will seek a bright start this term.

We say: Udinese 2-0 Avellino

The clubs' only previous Coppa Italia meeting went Avellino's way, but they are likely to exit the cup on this occasion, as Udinese simply boast too much firepower and will be keen to impress under new management.

Genoa vs. Reggiana (Friday, 7.45pm)

Meeting in the Coppa Italia for a second successive season, Genoa and Reggiana convene again on Friday evening, as they clash at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

This time drawn together in the first round, both clubs will play their first competitive game of the 2024-25 campaign.

We say: Genoa 3-0 Reggiana

A well-oiled machine under Alberto Gilardino - who stayed in post despite being linked with a move up the Serie A foodchain - Genoa should surely eliminate Reggiana for the second year running.

Having lost a head coach of Alessandro Nesta's stature, the Granata may struggle to make an impact at Stadio Ferraris.

Monza vs. Sudtirol (Friday, 8.15pm)

After making an early exit last year, Monza aim to progress from the Coppa Italia's first round on Friday, when they welcome Sudtirol to U-Power Stadium.

Under new management for the upcoming campaign, the Biancorossi are favourites to progress past second-tier opposition.

We say: Monza 1-0 Sudtirol

Although the risk of exiting to lower-league opponents again will put pressure on Monza, they have an experienced squad that should see off Sudtirol and progress to the second round.
