Mick McCarthy angered by spitting incident

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy condemns Antolin Alcaraz after the Wigan player allegedly spits at Richard Stearman.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy hopes that appropriate action will be taken after one of his players was spat at by a Wigan Atheltic's Antolin Alcaraz.

Television footage has appeared to show Alcaraz spit in the direction of Wolves's Richard Stearman during the Midlands' side 3-1 win at Molineux.

"Spitting is taboo if that's what happened," McCarthy told Sky Sports News. "I only had it happen to me once and the player didn't come too close to me for a long time after that.

"If it has been shown, that is unacceptable behaviour and anyone here who was spat at would act accordingly.

"If that has happened, he shouldn't be doing it."

Latics chief Roberto Martinez remained coy on the situation.

"I haven't seen (the replays) yet," he said. "If that is the case, I'll look into it and I'll find out."

The result has lifted Wolves into 13th place in the Premier League table, while Wigan remain bottom.
