Wolves have climbed up to 13th in the Premier League after securing their third win of the season at home to Wigan.
In a lively affair at Molineux, the hosts took the lead after half an hour when midfielder Jamie O'Hara punished the Latics for a miss seconds before, when the Englishman fired home from Kevin Doyle's centre.
Wigan were level three minutes before half-time when Ben Watson's penalty was saved by Wayne Hennessey, only for the rebound to fall back at Watson's feet to prod home.
Mick McCarthy's team restored their advantage soon after the break when Dave Edwards slammed home after a double save from the impressive Ali Al-Habsi.
Wolves opened up a two-goal advantage in a similar situation. This time Stephen Ward capitalised after an Al-Habsi save.
Chances were aplenty for the visitors but they were unable to convert any to give themselves a chance of a comeback.
Roberto Martinez's side remain rooted to the bottom of the league, five points adrift of Everton in 17th.
