Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has backed current Saints striker Rickie Lambert to be given a chance with England.
The 30-year-old has already scored against Manchester City and Manchester United this season.
The former Bristol Rovers forward now has his eye on a place in the Three Lions squad, and Le Tissier believes that Lambert would not let Roy Hodgson down.
"He couldn't make our starting lineup for the first game of the season [against Manchester City], which was a bit of a strange one, but he came on, made a good impact, and did well again on Sunday [against Manchester United]," said Le Tissier.
"He has been awesome. He has got a fantastic goalscoring record. With the lack of English forwards about at the moment, I see no reason why not."
Lambert scored 31 goals in all competitions last year.
