Newcastle United may be forced to double Demba Ba's wages amid interest in the player from clubs such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
Ba sparked worry for the Magpies this week by saying that a move to Paris would be "enticing" and further panic ensued when Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp revealed that Ba has a release clause of less than £7m in his contract.
Newcastle have a salary cap in place, but The Mirror reports that owner Mike Ashley would be willing to make an exception in order to keep the 26-year-old at the club.
Ba has scored 15 goals for Newcastle so far this season.
