Newly-appointed Everton boss Roberto Martinez reveals his "excitement" at taking charge of the club.

Newly-appointed Everton boss Roberto Martinez has revealed that he "cannot wait" to begin his managerial career with the Toffees.

The Spaniard, who was confirmed as the club's new manager on Wednesday, also claimed that it was "the right time" to leave Wigan Athletic this summer.

"It is a special day to come into Everton and have this feeling already of excitement and honour. I would like to thank the chairman and the board for his opportunity. I cannot wait to start working for the club," he told reporters at a press conference.

"It's simple. It came in a natural way. There has been a lot of talk in the media, after four seasons it was the right time to leave Wigan. After I met the chairman I knew that this was the right football club."

Martinez replaces David Moyes, who has left for Manchester United.
