Fabio Capello claims that Frank Lampard is still "important" to the England squad.

England manager Fabio Capello has insisted that Frank Lampard is still "important" to the national side.

The Italian dropped Lampard to the bench for Friday evening's victory over Bulgaria, leading many to question how much longer the Chelsea midfielder has at international level.

However, Capello has brushed away those suggestions, but failed to confirm whether the 33-year-old would start against Wales at Wembley tomorrow evening.

"Frank Lampard is a really important player, like others that are here and some players that are not here, like [Jack] Wilshere, Steven Gerrard and other ones," Capello told a press conference.

"I think he's ready to play with us. He is one of the important players and one of the leaders of this squad.

"I don't know if tomorrow he will play."

Lampard has scored 22 goals in 87 appearances for the Three Lions.
