West Ham United have reportedly had an approach for Rickie Lambert rejected by Southampton.
The Hammers want to add depth to their attacking options but had an initial offer for the striker dismissed by Saints, according to The Mirror.
Injuries have left Sam Allardyce short in the final third, with loan signing Andy Carroll restricted to just 12 appearances this season.
Lambert has hit eight goals in his debut Premier League season to attract attention from East London.
Saints are thought to have taken the view that Lambert's goals are vital to their hopes of top-flight survival and are not interested in selling their top scorer.
