Ben Foster doesn't expect England favour

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster admits that he does not expect to automatically be included in the England squad once he returns from an ACL injury.

Ben Foster has admitted that he will have to fight for a place in England's Euro 2016 squad after missing the second half of the qualifying campaign with a knee injury.

Roy Hodgson's side will need just one win from their four remaining qualifiers to guarantee their place in next summer's tournament, having won all six of their matches so far.

The West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper, who is expected to be out until October with an ACL tear, told PA: "I've got two or three big carrots in front of me I need to aim for. Roy gave me a call and told me how sorry he was and how unlucky I was. Things like that happen, you have to roll with it and suck it up.

"I don't expect any favours, definitely not, it's the way it is. You have to pick the players on form. If you're not playing or not performing I don't see why you should expect to be in the team.

"I've been keeping up with Fraser [Forster of Southampton] as well, his was a big old injury and I'm gutted for him because he was flying considering it was his first season in the Premier League. He did it a week after me and that's two England goalies taken out of contention but that's how it happens and the door opens for others."

Burnley's Tom Heaton and Robert Green of Queens Park Rangers were both included in the most recent England squad following Foster and Forster's injuries.
