Team News: Ryan Bertrand makes first England start

Roy Hodgson hands Ryan Bertrand a first England start for their international friendly against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand has been handed his first England start for the team's international friendly against the Republic of Ireland this afternoon.

Roy Hodgson has made six changes to the side that faced Italy in March, with Phil Jones and Jack Wilshere among those coming in, while captain Wayne Rooney starts as the lone striker.

Newcomers Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy and Tom Heaton all start on the bench.

Meanwhile, Ipswich Town strikers David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy lead the attack for Martin O'Neill's side.

Keiren Westwood is preferred in goal ahead of Shay Given and David Forde, while Harry Arter starts on the bench, but could come on to earn his first cap later on.
