Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino: 'We deserved more'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino says that his team did not deserve to be knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that his team were unlucky not to make it into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The North London outfit were beaten 4-3 on aggregate by Juventus in their last-16 tie.

Spurs came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Turin, and after going ahead at Wembley thanks to Son Heung-min, the club were on the verge of reaching the final eight.

However, goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala within three minutes of one another in the second half turned the clash on its head and Juventus progressed.

"In less than three minutes we conceded two goals - two big mistakes - and that is why we are out," Pochettino told BT Sport. "In both legs we deserved more. I feel proud. We played fantastic football until that first goal and we dominated.

"Of course we are very disappointed but it is part of growing. We will keep going. But we are very disappointed. We created a lot of chances. It is clear that we deserved a lot more. In football it is not about deserving, you have to score goals and not concede.

"[Juventus] only came to our goal two or three times - not much - but they have quality so if you make a mistake they will score. We played another massive team. For us it was tough. It was very positive for the future. You need this type of game and experience to build you as a player to compete at this level."

Tottenham have not won a trophy since 2007-08 when they scooped the EFL Cup, and their only realistic chance of silverware in the current campaign is winning the FA Cup.
