Mauricio Pochettino: 'We deserved a lot more'

Mauricio Pochettino admits that his Southampton side need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are to beat a team like Liverpool.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that his side were not clinical enough in front of goal to beat Liverpool, but insists that they "deserved a lot more" from the game.

The Saints, who lost 3-0 at St Mary's earlier today, created numerous chances in the opening 45 minutes, but they failed to make the most of them.

"We created a lot of chances in the first half and we deserved a lot more from the half," Pochettino is quoted as saying by Four Four Two.

"It should have been a different result but we just have to be a lot more clinical in the first half to get a different result.

"We were unlucky to score in the first half and then Sterling came on, [scores with] his first touch and it's 2-0. I thought overall with the team's performance it was an unfair result but Liverpool were a lot more clinical than we were."

Despite the defeat, Southampton remain in ninth place in the Premier League table.
