Southampton's Shane Long hopes to keep place up front

Southampton striker Shane Long is hopeful that he will play regularly up front following his impressive performance against Chelsea at the weekend.

Shane Long is hopeful that he can keep playing up front for Southampton following his impressive performance against Chelsea at the weekend.

The 28-year-old has mainly played in a wider role, but manager Ronald Koeman opted to give Long his favoured position for Sunday's 1-1 draw against the Blues.

"I've been biding my time for a while now, waiting for my chance, and hopefully the gaffer's seen enough to keep me in there, but if not, I'll be ready and raring to go whenever he needs me," the Daily Echo quotes Long as saying.

Long moved to St Mary's from Hull City last year.
