French club Sochaux have admitted that they are interested in signing Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu.
The USA international has scored two goal in 24 appearances for the SPL champions this season.
Gers boss Ally McCoist could be forced to sell the 25-year-old in order to fund further signings.
"We are interested in bringing Maurice Edu to Sochaux," assistant coach Stephane Gilli told STV.
"We have two or three other midfield targets but it's fair to say that Edu is our number one target for the midfield position.
"I cannot say if we have made an offer to Rangers. We will be discussing transfer strategies with the president of Sochaux this evening (Thursday)."
Edu moved to Ibrox from Toronto FC in 2008 for £2.6m.
