Northampton Town reveal that they have been threatened with legal action by Arena Coventry Limited should Coventry City play their home matches at Sixfields.

Northampton Town have insisted that they will not be "bullied" after receiving the threat of legal action from Arena Coventry Limited (ACL).

ACL have informed Northampton that they will pursue legal action should Coventry City play at Sixfields, citing that the Sky Blues have a contract to compete at the Ricoh Arena.

However, the Cobblers have criticised ACL, stating that they have agreed to the move 'for the good of the game'.

A club statement read: "Northampton Town Football Club confirms that Arena Coventry Limited (ACL) has threatened the club with legal action in respect of Coventry City FC playing at Sixfields Stadium.

"The club was approached by Coventry City to play at Sixfields, so that Coventry City could fulfil its fixtures. The Football League has endorsed this arrangement.

"The threatened action by ACL is without any legal merit and is not conducive to the greater good of the game. Northampton Town Football Club will not be bullied or threatened."

The Football League confirmed on Monday that they have supported Coventry's move to Sixfields for a minimum of three seasons.
