The Football League has confirmed that Coventry City will play their home games at Northampton Town's Sixfields Stadium for a minimum of three seasons.
The League One club recently moved out of the Ricoh Arena following a rent dispute with the venue's owners Arena Coventry Ltd.
The move means that fans will undergo a round trip of around 65 miles to watch their team play.
"The Football League believes that clubs should play in the towns and cities from which they take their name," read a statement from Football League chairman Greg Clarke.
"Nonetheless, from time to time, the board is asked to consider temporary relocations as a means for securing a club's ongoing participation in our competition."
The Sky Blues are currently working towards exiting administration.
