Cheick Tiote: 'Defeat harsh on Newcastle United'

Cheick Tiote believes that Newcastle United did not deserve to lose Sunday's derby against Sunderland in the Premier League.

Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has claimed that his side did not deserve to lose Sunday's derby against Sunderland in the Premier League.

The Magpies looked on course for a point at the Stadium of Light before Fabio Borini scored a spectacular late winner as the hosts earned a 2-1 victory.

"I'm really disappointed because we didn't win at Sunderland," Tiote is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "I think we deserved more than that, but they scored the winning goal.

"We have to talk about the next game. Every time we play Sunderland, it's tough. I think we did the right things, but we conceded a goal we didn't deserve to concede."

Newcastle return to action on Wednesday when they host Manchester City in the fourth round of the League Cup.
