Frank Leboeuf criticises Yohan Cabaye over Paris Saint-Germain move

Yohan Cabaye made a mistake by leaving Newcastle United to join Paris Saint-Germain, according to ex-France defender Frank Leboeuf.

Former France international Frank Leboeuf has claimed that compatriot Yohan Cabaye made a mistake by swapping Newcastle United for Paris Saint-Germain last winter.

The 28-year-old secured a £19m move to the Ligue 1 champions last January but is yet to replicate his Newcastle form, scoring twice and creating just three more in a modest first 10 months at Parc de Princes.

Leboeuf says that Cabaye is suffering from a lack of confidence and believes that his international future is in jeopardy, with Euro 2016 scheduled to be held in France.

"For me, it is a mistake on his part. He must think of the France team, he lost the confidence he had stored in Newcastle," the ex-Chelsea defender told Le10 Sport.

"I think Yohan Cabaye has never been part of the first choices of Laurent Blanc. When he arrived, there were already Motta, Verratti and Matuidi.

"He will have to ask the right questions about his future. He loses confidence. He should think about this in winter or summer. It should be ready for 2016, he is one of the major elements of the France team."

Cabaye is contracted to Les Parisiens until summer 2017.
