Ryan Giggs appointed Manchester United interim manager

Manchester United appoint Ryan Giggs as interim manager until the end of the season following the sacking of David Moyes.

Manchester United have appointed Ryan Giggs as interim manager until the end of the season.

The 40-year-old, who has made 962 appearances for United during a 23-year playing career, will take control of first-team affairs following the sacking of David Moyes.

Moyes was dismissed on Tuesday with United sitting seventh in the Premier League table, 23 points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

"Following the departure of David Moyes as manager, Manchester United has announced that Ryan Giggs, the club's most decorated player, will assume responsibility for the first team until a permanent appointment can be made," a statement on United's official website read.

"The club will make no further comment on this process until it is concluded."

Reports have suggested that Giggs will be assisted at Old Trafford by former United teammate Nicky Butt.
