Report: Louis van Gaal is Manchester United's number one target

Manchester United reportedly place Louis van Gaal as their number one target to replace doomed David Moyes.

Manchester United have reportedly identified Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal as their number one target to replace manager David Moyes.

The Scotsman remains in charge of the Red Devils, but widespread reports have suggested that the former Everton boss could be sacked this week.

The speculation emerged following United's 2-0 defeat to Moyes's former club on Sunday, which resulted in the Red Devils' 11th Premier League loss of the campaign.

Reports have claimed that should Moyes be shown the Old Trafford exit this week, player-coach Ryan Giggs will take charge of first-team duties until the end of the season.

According to the Daily Star, it is understood that Van Gaal, who will leave his post with the Dutch FA after the World Cup this summer, would prefer a switch to United as opposed to Tottenham Hotspur, who are also said to be interested in the 62-year-old coach.

Jurgen Klopp, Laurent Blanc and Diego Simeone are also believed to be potential candidates for the position, which was giveen to Moyes with the backing of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired after 27 years at Old Trafford last summer.
