Sergio Aguero: 'Premier League is toughest in Europe'

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero says that the Premier League is the "most competitive" league in European football.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has claimed that the Premier League is the "most competitive" league in Europe.

It has long been discussed which division is the best in Europe, with Spain's La Liga boasting the last two winners of the European Cup – Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Aguero, however, has said that the number of teams that can win the English league separates it from the rest.

"I've been known to say that the Premier League was one of the most competitive tournaments in the world. And I have no doubt that it's the most competitive of them all," Aguero told Man City's official website.

"Is there any other league out there with so many teams vying for the top position? It's just uncanny. They say that major teams are inconsistent but I say the opposite - there's a lot of consistency.

"It's just harder because there are some brilliant teams out there and we are all playing to win. The knock-on effect is that it causes the best players to be motivated to join the Premier League and that's why we see teams performing increasingly well."

Man City are currently second in the Premier League table, three points behind Leicester City, whom they welcome to the Etihad on Saturday.

Fifth-placed Manchester United, meanwhile, are only 10 points off the summit despite their struggles throughout the campaign.
