Report: Manchester City to swoop for Southampton's Jay Rodriguez

Manchester City are looking to beat Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez, according to a report.

Manchester City are reportedly weighing up a move for Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez.

The Premier League champions are said to be wary of interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the England international.

Rodriguez has been out of action since rupturing knee ligaments last April, and his comeback from the injury has been delayed until February.

It is thought that Southampton have offered the 25-year-old an improved contract in a bid to keep him on the South Coast.

City are closing in on the £27m signing of Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony from Swansea City.

However, they want to beat Liverpool and Spurs to Rodriguez's signature, according to the Daily Mail.

Rodriguez has netted 26 goals in 76 appearances for Southampton since joining them from Burnley in 2012.
