Ruben Amorim says that Manchester United supporters "will see an idea" when the Red Devils take to the field against Ipswich Town on November 24.

Ruben Amorim has said that Manchester United supporters "will see an idea" when the Red Devils take to the field for their first match under his leadership after the international break.

The 39-year-old officially became Man United's new head coach at the start of this week, and his visa is expected to arrive in time to allow him to take charge of a training session at Carrington for the first time on Monday.

Amorim will then lead Man United for the first time against Ipswich Town on November 24, and there has been a lot of talk surrounding his tactics, with the Portuguese expected to bring his 3-4-3 formation with him from Sporting Lisbon.

In his first interview since being appointed Red Devils head coach, Amorim revealed what can be expected from the Ipswich clash, as he bids to make an immediate impact.

"I think you will see an idea. You could like it or not, I don't know, but you will see an idea," Amorim told MUTV. "You will see a positioning. You will see something that we want to reach that kind of level. You will feel that.

Amorim promises to show "an idea" against Ipswich

"We have to know that it's like two trainings before the first match. This is the best league in the world. But if I have to say something to you, [it's that] you will see an idea. This I can guarantee.

"A lot of people now talk about the 3-4-3 and the 4-3-3 and all that stuff. But when I think as a player or as a teammate of Manchester United, it is not a system or formation – it's like the character of the players, the way they see the club.

"So we have to focus on that before everything [in terms] of how we play, how we press. The most important thing for me, at this moment, is to create the principles, the identity and the character that we had in the past.

"For me, of course you are in the club, you have to win. We know that we need time, but we have to win time.

Amorim: "The most important thing for me is identity"

"To win time is to win games but the most important thing for me is identity. So, since day one, we didn't start training, we didn't have the players. But, since day one, we will start with our identity. Of course, we are going to prepare [for] the games, but we will focus a lot in our game model.

"How to play, how to press, these small things, small details. You cannot go 100 per cent on every detail because it will be confusing for the players. So if I have to say one thing, my main goal, my first goal, is identity."

Amorim will only have had two full training sessions with his players before the Ipswich clash, as a number of the first team are currently away on international duty.

Uruguay's Manuel Ugarte and Argentina's Alejandro Garnacho are likely to be the final two to return, and Amorim will be hoping that none of the players representing their countries pick up fitness problems.

The new head coach is sweating over the fitness of Lisandro Martinez, though, as the centre-back pulled out of the Argentina squad due to an issue related to his hip and back.
