Steven Gerrard hails his side's 3-1 win against Newcastle as the "perfect return" from injury.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has described his side's 3-1 win against Newcastle United as a "perfect return" from injury.

Gerrard came off the bench to help his side claim the win at Anfield after an injury-plagued year.

"Of late we haven't got what we deserved, so it was really pleasing to get the three points tonight and three goals after criticism we haven't scored enough," he told Sky Sports News.

"I have had a terrible year with the injuries but I want to look forward and to get on the score sheet and to get the three points was a perfect return."

The win has lifted the Merseyside club up to fifth in the Premier League table.
