Sunderland's new striker Fabio Borini has admitted that he "wasted" time by staying at Liverpool last season.
The Italian forward was close to joining the Black Cats last summer after both clubs agreed on a reported £14m fee.
However, the 24-year-old, who spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan at the Stadium of Light, rejected a transfer in favour of fighting his way back into the Liverpool team.
This summer though, Borini made a permanent switch to Sunderland after being forced to train on his own at the Merseyside club,
"I wasted too much time - not because I wanted to waste it, or deserved to waste it, I just wasted it," The Chronicle quotes Borini as saying. "That's why I came back to a place where I have been loved, and still feel the love from the supporters.
"It was really upsetting [to train on my own]. It was the killer that led me to leave Liverpool. I always gave everything for the club, and I showed that on the pitch and in training. Everyone knows within that club that I did everything and never complained."
Borini spent three years at Anfield.
