Emre Can eyeing regular midfield role at Liverpool

Emre Can insists that he 'has not regretted joining Liverpool', despite often being fielded out of position in his maiden campaign on Merseyside.

Emre Can has hinted that he will be fielded in his favoured central midfield role at Liverpool next season after holding talks with manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Germany Under-21s international, who joined the Reds in a £10m switch from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, was often used as a makeshift defender in his first campaign at Anfield.

However, having scored a crucial goal against Serbia Under-21s earlier this week, Can now hopes to be given a chance further forward at Liverpool.

"I'll be playing my best position soon, which is central midfield," he told German publication 11 Freunde. "The coach knows about it and sees it the same way I do.

"It's normal that there's a period of adaptation, but I always believed in myself and haven't regretted joining Liverpool for a second. The Premier League is the best league in the world for me.

"This is primarily a physical challenge, higher tempo, more duels. In the Bundesliga, I thought that I'm already well built. Then in England suddenly there are players with incredible stature."

Can made 40 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool last term.
