Unemployed head coach Jose Mourinho could return to Chelsea for a third managerial spell, according to a report.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly prepared to return to Chelsea for a third managerial spell.

As it stands, Maurizio Sarri is still in charge of the Blues, but it is widely thought that the former Napoli boss will return to Italy to take charge of Juventus ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

According to The Sun, Frank Lampard is still the favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge, with the legendary midfielder impressing while in charge of Derby County last season.

However, the same report claims that Mourinho 'is a rank outsider' to return to the London club.

The Portuguese won three Premier League titles, three League Cups and one FA Cup during his two spells with Chelsea but was axed for the second time in 2015 after a poor start to the season.

The 56-year-old - also linked with the Newcastle United post - has been without a position since being sacked by Manchester United in the latter stages of 2018.

Mourinho had a win record of 67% from his 185 matches in charge of Chelsea during his first spell at the club between June 2004 and September 2007.

However, the former Porto head coach had just a 59% win record from his 136 matches at the helm after returning to the London giants for the second time in June 2013.
