Chelsea are in negotiations with Rafael Benitez over a possible return to Stamford Bridge, according to a report.

Chelsea are reportedly in negotiations with Rafael Benitez over a possible return to Stamford Bridge.

Benitez will see his contract with Newcastle United expire this summer, and the Spaniard's future remains unclear due to the uncertainty surrounding a potential takeover at St James' Park.

The 59-year-old took charge of Chelsea on an interim basis between November 2012 and May 2013, leading the Blues to the Europa League title.

According to Tuttosport, the London club have now initiated talks with Benitez over a return to Stamford Bridge, with current boss Maurizio Sarri widely expected to leave the London club to take charge of Juventus.

Jose Mourinho has also been linked with a return to Chelsea, who finished third in the Premier League last season and also won the Europa League despite Sarri's style of football coming in for criticism.
