Barnsley goalkeeper Nick Townsend breaks finger after "duel" with teammate

Barnsley goalkeeper Nick Townsend will miss the rest of the season with a broken finger after "a duel" with teammate Dimi Cavare.

Barnsley boss Jose Morais has confirmed that goalkeeper Nick Townsend has suffered a broken finger after what he describes as "a duel" with a teammate.

Townsend reportedly suffered the injury during an altercation with Dimi Cavare, with the stopper now being sidelined for the rest of the season.

However, despite the incident at the club's training ground, Morais has suggested that he has no issue with either player.

The 52-year-old told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It was a duel between two players that resulted in him breaking his finger.

"I'm not frustrated. If I could give a pair of gloves to both of them and say 'start to fight' and they have a fair fight and it would result in a better shape for the team and a better atmosphere, then I would say the result is good."

Townsend has made eight appearances since Morais's appointment earlier this year, while Cavare has featured on seven occasions since the start of 2018.

Morais has won just one of his eight games in charge of the Tykes, who currently sit five points adrift of safety in the Championship table.
