Peterborough United keep playoff hopes alive with victory over Leyton Orient

Peterborough defeat Leyton Orient in League One to move level on points with the playoff places.

Peterborough defeated Leyton Orient in League One to move level on points with the playoff places this afternoon.

After a quiet opening 23 minutes, Peterborough took the lead in style. Jon Taylor curled the ball into the top-left corner from outside the penalty area, to score his first ever goal at London Road.

Romain Vincelot tried to reply immediately, but he directed the ball over the crossbar.

It was Jack Payne's turn to try from long range in the 35th minute, but his shot was saved by Alex Cisak.

David Mooney was first to threaten in the second half but his shot was saved by Ben Alnwick. Jobi McAnuff's effort was saved a few minutes later.

Luke James then saw his shot from inside the six-yard box stopped by Cisak, and the Orient goalkeeper was equal to Payne's effort in the 70th minute.

Marcus Maddison was sent off in the 89th minute, but Leyton Orient were not able to capitalise in the 11 minutes of stoppage time.
