The International Rugby Board has stood by the decision that denied James Hook a review of a disputed penalty kick during Wales’ 17-16 loss to South Africa yesterday (Sunday).
Hook believed that his 14th minute kick went through the posts, but the assistant referees kept their flags down.
Referee Wayne Barnes opted not to consult the television match official, despite pleas from Hook.
The IRB said that it fully backs the referee’s decision and no further action will be taken.
"Under protocol, the Referee may consult the Assistant Referees or the Television Match Official if he is unsure as to whether a penalty kick, drop goal or conversion has been successful," a statement read.
"During the match in question, the match official team felt at the time that there was no need to consult the TMO following a Wales penalty kick as they were confident that the kick was not successful. Correct protocol was therefore followed.
"The IRB will not be making further comment."
Wales will attempt to put the narrow loss behind them when they take on Samoa on Sunday, September 18.
