Boaz Myhill is glad to have been offered a new one-year contract at West Bromwich Albion after initially being released by the club earlier this summer.

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed that goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has returned to the club after being handed a one-year deal.

The ex-Wales international released by the Baggies following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

Despite being tipped to kickstart his career at Birmingham City or Bolton Wanderers, however, the 35-year-old has now opted to stay on at The Hawthorns for a further 12 months.

Myhill, first brought to Albion in 2010, will now compete with newbies Sam Johnstone and Jonathan Bond for a place in the starting lineup.

"I'm happy to sign. I've had to go through the process. I've had to show that I was hungry to be here. I've had to show humility to come here every day without a contract," he told the club's official website. "I've had to show that I'm still a good keeper and that's why we're here now.

"I'm happy to help in whatever way I can. I've obviously played at this level. In the last two teams I was involved with in the Championship we've finished third so I know I am a good keeper in this league.

"I have spoken to Sam and 'Bondy' - they're different characters to each other and to me and I think Neil [Cutler] was keen to add my experience in that mix. But I also accept that the club needed to move away from a lot go older players across the board. I'm pleased to have signed."

Myhill featured in just one Premier League game last season - the 1-1 draw with Leicester City in October.
