Pulis: ‘FA Cup is icing on the cake’

Tony Pulis says that despite being proud of his club’s FA Cup chances, it’s the Premiership that matters.

Tony Pulis has stated that cup competitions will never take precedence over Stoke City’s position in the Premier League.

Although proud of the Potters’ place in next month’s FA Cup final meeting with Manchester City, he said that it’s the benefits of a place in the Premiership that have afforded them the opportunity.

“We are absolutely delighted that we’ve got to an FA Cup final,” he explained. “It’s an absolutely brilliant achievement by the club, but the priority will always be the Premier League.

“The longer we are in the Premier League the club will grow because it will give us the finances to make it a stronger club,” he said, adding that the finances they’ve gained since entering the top league in 2008 has allowed them to invest in areas of the club that they “would never have dreamt of” previously.

Although in a safe position in the table, Pulis insisted that Stoke will give the remaining fixtures their all. “We have five more games to go and we’ve said all along we have to try to get as many points as we can from the games left,” he said.

Stoke play host to Wolves tonight. Kick-off is at 19.45.
