Tim Sherwood: 'Tottenham Hotspur need a striker to reach top four'

Tim Sherwood believes that Tottenham Hotspur should have signed a striker during the transfer window.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has suggested that the club are a striker short of challenging for a spot in the top four.

Mauricio Pochettino, who was named Spurs head coach earlier this summer, brought six players to White Hart Lane in the transfer window, but Sherwood believes that the attacking trio of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane will not score enough goals to take the side into the Champions League.

"Tottenham are one striker short of challenging for a top four spot," Sherwood told talkSPORT. "It doesn't get any easier to break into the top four.

"The emergence of Liverpool has put everyone's nose out because it's another spot which looks like it's going to be taken. Brendan [Rodgers] has done a great job there."

Spurs were rumoured to be interested in signing Danny Welbeck prior to his move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day.
