Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane: 'We were nowhere near good enough on final day'

Harry Kane says that he and his Tottenham Hotspur teammates were "nowhere near good enough" following their final-day defeat to Newcastle United.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has admitted that he and his teammates were "nowhere near good enough" on the final day of the Premier League season.

Spurs were in the driving seat to finish above North London rivals Arsenal for the first time in 21 years, but they squandered their chance.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were beaten 5-1 by recently-relegated Newcastle United, while Arsenal ran out 4-0 winners over Aston Villa at the Emirates.

The final results dropped Spurs to third in the table, while Arsenal finished one point above them in second, 10 points adrift of champions Leicester City.

After the game, Kane tweeted: "Today wasn't nowhere near good enough. It shows we are still learning and still have a lot to improve on. But overall with have to see the bigger picture. We are in the Champions League. We have to stay positive and be proud! We have to come next season with ambition!"

The silver lining for Kane was that he won the Golden Boot award after netting 25 goals in the 2015-16 campaign.
