Republic of Ireland to face Netherlands before Euro 2016

The FAI announces that the Republic of Ireland will host the Netherlands in a pre-Euro 2016 friendly in Dublin on May 27 next year.

The Republic of Ireland will take on the Netherlands in their final Dublin pre-Euro 2016 friendly.

The Football Association of Ireland said today that the match will take place at the Aviva Stadium on May 27 before the Republic's Group E opener against Sweden in Paris on June 13.

Holland are ranked 14th in the world and are former winners of the Euros in 1988, but they failed to qualify for next year's tournament in France by finishing fourth in their group behind the Czech Republic, Iceland and Turkey.

Martin O'Neill's side want to play one other friendly away from Dublin before the European Championship starts, although the opponents and venue have yet to be finalised.

Also in their group at Euro 2016 are the world's top-ranked side Belgium and four-time World Cup winners Italy.
