Rangers board to meet on Thursday

Shareholders of Scottish giants Rangers will meet for the first AGM in three years on Thursday.

Shareholders of Scottish club Rangers will meet for the first AGM in three years on Thursday.

The current board wants to be re-elected but former director Paul Murray is keen on getting on the team along with three other men.

"There are nine candidates who are up for either re-election or election and I think what the shareholders should do is try and choose the best board to take Rangers forward," he told Sky Sports News.

"We have said that some of the appointments that the board have made are credible and I think can help the club move forward. We think our nominations are also credible so we have to see what the shareholders think.

"But I think the most important constituency are the fans. It's the fans who have kept the club going for the last couple of years. They are the ones who buy the season tickets, they are the ones who buy the merchandise and pay for the hospitality. At the end of the day it's really the fans who I think are the most important factor here."

Rangers's current chief executive Graham Wallace has said that he wants to make sure that the fans know that the club is "in good hands".

"[The fans] want to know that their club is in good hands," he said. "They want to know that they have got people in the boardroom who genuinely have got the interests of Rangers at heart and I can categorically give them that assurance, sitting from the CEO's chair.

"My focus 100% is to drive this business forward and I really seek the mandate, I seek the support of the wider shareholder community, to give us the platform to do that because it is absolutely fundamental to the future of the club."

Rangers are currently at the top of the Scottish League One with 45 points from 15 matches.
