Les Ferdinand: Chris Ramsey must "step his game up"

Les Ferdinand tells Queens Park Rangers boss Chris Ramsey that he must learn to deal with the high expectation levels at Loftus Road following a slow start to the season.

Queens Park Rangers director of football Les Ferdinand has warned Chris Ramsey that he must up his game and learn to deal with the expectation levels in order to achieve the club's aim of promotion.

The R's find themselves down in 11th place with nearly a quarter of the campaign played.

After initially taking over the side when they were battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League last season, Ferdinand admits that the "expectations have risen" on Ramsey to succeed this time around.

"I went home the other day and looked at our squad of players and thought, 'how many of these would I change for any other clubs in this league? Not many'," he is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard. "It's about us stepping up to the plate and really putting our foot on the pedal.

"When you look at the squad now, of course expectations have changed. When the position was given to [Ramsey], we were talking about keeping us in the league. But now the expectation is to go on and win it or be in the top six.

"The expectations have risen on Chris and he finds himself thrown into the deep end. If you lose 4-0, people will say 'you don't know what you're doing' because you're giving goals away too easily. [Ramsey] has to step his game up as well."

QPR return to action this weekend when they take on Birmingham City at St Andrew's, where they will be looking to build on their dramatic 4-3 win against Bolton Wanderers prior to the two-week break.
