Real Madrid destroy Copa del Rey trophy

The Copa del Rey trophy is smashed into pieces after being dropped by Sergio Ramos.

The Copa del Rey trophy was smashed into pieces last night, just hours after Real Madrid's victory.

Jose Mourinho's side won the cup for the first time in 18 years thanks to an extra time goal from Cristiano Ronaldo in a close game with rivals Barcelona in Valencia.

Real defender Sergio Ramos accidentally dropped the cup from the top of the team's victory bus at around 4am. The bus subsequently ran over the trophy, smashing it into around ten pieces.

"The cup fell, it fell," protested Ramos afterwards. "But the cup is okay."

Pieces of the cup were recovered by Spanish police, who returned it to the club.
