Steve McClaren reveals ambition to run his own football club

Steve McClaren reveals that he wants to one day run his own football club after enrolling at the Manchester Metropolitan University.

Former Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has revealed that he wants to one day run his own football club.

The 55-year-old has been out of management for the past four months after getting sacked by the Magpies.

McClaren has also coached England, FC Twente, Wolfsburg, Nottingham Forest and Derby County in his career, but he plans to take a different route after enrolling in a Sporting Directorship course at the Manchester Metropolitan University.

"The next step in the future will be as a chief executive or sporting director, or even running my own club," McClaren told BBC Sport.

"To do that I had to acquire different skills and go back to school. It's probably old age. I always wanted to coach and manage. I know that won't last forever."

The part-time course will take two years to complete.
