Newport County boss Justin Edinburgh is confident of progressing with the League Two outfit.

Newport County boss Justin Edinburgh has revealed that he is confident of taking the club into the higher divisions of the Football League.

Edinburgh, who led County back into the Football League last season, has also praised the contribution of the club's chairman Les Scadding.

"I think sometimes in my early career as a manager I chased the dream, but I feel with this board and chairman I can achieve what I set out to do," he told Sky Sports News.

"You see Swansea now winning the Capital One Cup when years ago they were nearly going out of the league. It's achievable. We need first and foremost to maintain league status for next season and to get the off-field parallel with on the field, because we have over-achieved on the pitch.

"Once we do that, with the fans we have - it's a big city, a big football club - I feel that long-term, in three to to five years, we can get this club rising to the next division and beyond. But as soon as you stand still you go backwards, and I know with this board and chairman that we certainly won't do that."

Edinburgh, who began his career at Southend United, represented Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth during his playing career.
