Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote is hoping to make a return from injury against Manchester City this weekend.

The 25-year-old has missed the Toon Army's last two Premier League matches with a knee complaint that he sustained in training.

Despite admitting that his time on the sidelines has been "frustrating", Tiote has been quick the praise the performances of his replacement Danny Guthrie.

"It's been very frustrating for me to have missed the last two games, especially as we have started the season so well," Tiote told the Evening Chronicle.

"Danny came in and did a very good job too. He fitted into the team so well.

"It shows how good our squad is and also that even if I am fit, the manager has options to change the team around."

Tiote joined the Magpies in 2010 from Dutch club FC Twente.
