Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini insists team will not face relegation

Fabricio Coloccini insists that Newcastle United fans will not see a repeat of the 2008-09 relegation season.

Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has ruled out the possibility of the Magpies being relegated from the Premier League despite his side sitting second bottom of the table with no wins from six games.

The Argentine defender was part of the squad that dropped into the Championship in 2009, but he insists that things are different this time around.

"It feels very different because this time, we have controlled games," he is quoted as saying by The Express. "Last time when we went down we could not do that. Now we do. It is hard to find the answer but we will keep trying.

"We have a tight group, all working for each other and we are staying positive as well. We just need three points, to take the pressure off. I have an extra responsibility as captain and I accept that.

"The fans have been fantastic and we just need to keep training hard and giving everything. You can see on the pitch we want to win games, but other teams are having maybe two chances against us and they are scoring. That happens when you are having a bad time."

Manager Alan Pardew has reportedly been told that his job is safe for the time being.
