Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne expected to miss rest of season

Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne is likely to be sidelined for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury.

Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury.

The Italy international, 23, tore his anterior cruciate ligament on Sunday during his side's 1-0 win over Fiorentina in Serie A.

Insigne is due to undergo surgery in the coming days before starting his rehabilitation.

An official club statement read: "A rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee: this is the outcome of diagnostic tests for Lorenzo Insigne this morning.

"Accompanied by Dr D'Andrea, he went to Villa Stuart of Professor Mariani for clinical examinations after the accident in Florence. The attacker will be operated on in the coming days by Professor Mariani."

Napoli continue their league campaign on November 23 when they entertain Cagliari.
