Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly berates defender Chris Smalling for his part in Manchester City's derby winner on Monday.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling was reportedly on the end of some stern words from Sir Alex Ferguson following the club's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The 22-year-old was at fault for City's winner on Monday, when he failed to pick up Vincent Kompany from a corner in first-half stoppage time.

United boss Ferguson told reporters after the match: "If you lose a goal at a set-piece you only have yourself to blame at this level."

The result dropped United to second spot in the Premier League table.
